Maternity

Scope:

To explore options for the configuration of maternity services in order to maintain safe and sustainable service provision for women and families in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

How are things going?

The maternity group is examining how to improve the maternity pathway across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. The working group has expressed a commitment to increasing the home birth rate and enhancing the way antenatal and postnatal care is provided, by standardising care across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, and this could be achieved through the development of a maternity network.

From the public assemblies held during March

During the events we heard that maternity services are generally well regarded, but information for mothers is not always good. Through the development of our maternity networks we aim to standardise and improve the way that we provide information to mothers and families, to enable them to make informed choices about the care they receive. We also heard that perinatal mental health is an important area for improvement, and we have identified this as a challenge that we are seeking to address through redesigning the way we provide perinatal mental health support.
